The Framingham Police Department is an Equal Opportunity Employer that currently has a sworn staff of 115 police officers as well as a support staff of 20 civilians. Together we make up a team who serves the Town of Framingham.

The Framingham Police Department is a Civil Service community whereby residents who take and pass the Entry Level Police Examination will appear first on any eligible hiring list requested by the department. Those who qualify must be given preference when the hiring process begins.

HOW TO APPLY:
If you are a Town of Framingham resident and have passed the written state exam, your name will be placed on an eligibility list determined by the Human Resource Division (Civil Service). When positions become available the police department will contact eligible candidates, and you will be asked to complete an Employment Information Package. Each applicant will go through a thorough personal background investigation, psychological testing, physical examination, reference check, and a series of oral interviews. The Chief of Police will make the appointment to the department based on the above results.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
The minimum requirement is a high school diploma or equivalent. The demands of the job show a need for higher education. Commitment to continuing education will help in professional growth and promotion opportunities. It is advised that applicants have or intend to pursue an Associates Degree or higher.

TRAINING REQUIREMENTS:
Newly appointed officers will attend a 20 to 22 week Police Academy sponsored by the Massachusetts Criminal Justice Training Council. Upon successful completion of the academy each officer will be assigned to a Field Training Officer for a period of not less than eight weeks. A shift assignment will follow.

BENEFITS:
At present all patrol officers are bargaining members of the International Brotherhood of Police Officers local 474. Every three years a salary contract is decided on between the members of 474 and the Town of Framingham. Officers work 37.5 hours per week, 5 days on three days off.
